Alphabets according to Google.co.uk Instant

I have searched in Google.co.uk to see who comes up first for single letter (alphabets).

Here are the results…

  • A is for Argos.co.uk
  • B is for Bbc.co.uk
  • C is for Currys.co.uk
  • D is for Debenhams.com
  • E is for Ebay.co.uk
  • F is for Facebook.com
  • G is for Maps.google.co.uk
  • H is for Live.com
  • I is for Itv.com
  • J is for JohnLewis.com
  • K is for Klm.com
  • L is for National-lottery.co.uk
  • M is for uk.msn.com
  • N is for Next.co.uk
  • O is for o2.co.uk
  • P is for Paypal.co.uk
  • Q is for Qvcuk.com
  • R is for Rightmove.co.uk
  • S is for Sky.com
  • T is for Tesco.com
  • U is for Youtube.com
  • V is for www.virgin-atlantic.com
  • W is for news.bbc.co.uk/weather
  • X is for Xbox.com
  • Y is for Youtube.com
  • Z is for Zara.com

The interesting part is the letter “u” showing youtube.com in Top spot and sub-domains & sub-folders are given equal importance as long as they are relevant and satisfy the Google search algo.

It dont look as if its such a big deal…or important!!
Typing takes more time than triping in searching for what i want …

I dont quite understand why there is such a big deal which is somewhat trivial

  • new goat

well i think this is useful like you know you type something like first name of the street and forget the other half Google will help you with that in a second

You dont have to think, confuse or break your head but just type in what you remember and it completes the job for you

such a idiotic thing it is! how can any software predict what i am thinking in my conscious…

  • samkilt

i found a bug in it
i usually type in the text and when the prompt comes up i use the down arrow and then the right one to select the text
Try it and when you do this, it loads the first result in google browser a website such a bug!!

    Just find it yourself!!

Google Instant is more than just a search phrase suggestion feature,

Results prediction based on query, without even pressing the search button or hitting “enter” button on keyboad
helps users to find what they are looking for more quickly
searcher can refine the results without hitting “enter” button.

however, technology or a feature is successful only when the users embrace it otherwise it will be a fail, Google fail.
another interesting fact is, Yahoo introduced something similar on Alltheweb search, for more info read this 2006 blog post

Vinod, this is an interesting feature, but i doubt if it is really any different from the conventional search drop down box suggestions?
However I understood that it shows more search results on your each type exploring to more screens thus extending the reach to search results – potentially not reducing the time you spend compared to getting to the place where you actually intend to. This may be a good feature for curious people and researchers as well but a bit distracting and time consuming to people who just come to meet their needs and do what they are intended to ( like searching a particular phrase).

I agree the google instant results will definately influence on how people get to their intended search results. I believe some distractions or let us call it the intermediate results that pop up along the way may be more related to the final search results due to the prominence of the keyword in the search results. Furthermore it enhances the search feautre by not just suggesting the search text but showing the links related to that present text that obviously increases the chance of getting to the right website. I love the feature of google instant that shows different search results just byt the flick of entering a letter or word depending on the search phrase. Lets see how the people adapt to it and to the new technologies once it is open to all not just the google accounts.

As of now, I havent noticed any moves as per seo. For example if i am optimizing for kitchen appliances then I assume people will be searching on the same term. I should see if the suffesstions coming up dont inclyde this term then i need to optimise my site for those terms as well ofcourse related to my kitchen appliances but phrasing differs i guess. I would say that this would nt make any difference in the site’s performance in the search results. This feautre actually makes it more easier to get the keyword list and know what i should optimise my site for.

Great insight and i will always look forward to hear from you about your perspective on such things. It just works fantastic and fabulously incredible for me. I love to see if this affects our searching skills and typing habits too. Good to see you sharing on this!
